Does a professional need an account and an assigned shift?
Yes. Invite the professional to Field and assign them to a shift. The clock flow uses their signed-in identity; an unassigned person cannot simply clock on to somebody else’s shift.
Features / Time tracking and timesheets
Your team clocks on at the job. You check the hours. Then export for payroll.

Paper timesheets. Messages with missing finish times. Breaks nobody wrote down. Field connects clock-on, clock-off and break records to scheduled shifts, giving you one place to review the hours and resolve questions.

Your crew signs in on their phone to clock on and off their assigned shifts. They can record breaks too, keeping the working day connected to the job.
Review clock events, breaks and exception flags together. Spot missing information and follow it up before using the hours for payroll.
Where location checks are configured and permitted, they add context to the record. You still make the decision.
Export a summary for the period you need, including recorded time and unpaid breaks. Review it before importing it into your payroll process.
Field helps you prepare the records. It does not replace your payroll checks.
Some clock and work records can wait on the phone while it is offline. Once connected, check that they have synced and resolve any rejected entries before payroll.
A record saved on a phone while offline is pending, not yet accepted by the server. Check that it syncs and resolve any rejected event before payroll.
When a geofence is the shift’s verification method, Field compares a permitted clock-event location with the site. It can verify an event inside the boundary, warn just outside it, or reject a clock-in beyond the warning range. Missing permission, consent or site coordinates can leave the event needing review.
If the business enables GPS updates and the professional consents, the crew screens can also send periodic, movement-aware positions while the professional is clocked on and the page is open and visible. They do not track anyone in the background after the page is hidden or closed. A map position has a timestamp and can become stale; it is not proof of where someone is right now.
Rules about tracking staff location are different in every country, and sometimes in each state or region too.
In many places you need to tell your team what you record and why, ask for their consent, and only keep the data as long as you need it. Some places have stricter rules.
Field gives you the controls: location checks only run if you set them up, each professional chooses whether to share their location, and nothing is tracked once the crew page is closed.
Those controls do not make your setup legal on their own. You are responsible for how you use location data in your business.
This is general information, not legal advice. Before you switch on GPS checks, get advice for your country from a lawyer or your local workplace or privacy regulator.
Owners and managers paying crews who work at customer sites rather than at one fixed desk. It suits trades, cleaning, grounds and maintenance teams that need shift-by-shift records before a payroll run.
Start with one crew and one pay period. Compare Field’s export with your current payroll process before you replace it, especially if your award or agreement has complex pay rules.
Yes. Invite the professional to Field and assign them to a shift. The clock flow uses their signed-in identity; an unassigned person cannot simply clock on to somebody else’s shift.
It depends on the configured verification method and distance. With a geofence, a reading inside the boundary is verified, one in the warning range is flagged, and a clock-in beyond that range is rejected. If GPS or site coordinates are unavailable, the record may need review instead.
Field can record a clock event without coordinates. The server does not store coordinates when the professional has not given GPS consent. A geofence check without a position needs review, so discuss the site’s policy with your crew rather than assuming a location was verified.
In many countries, yes, and you may need their consent. The rules depend on where you operate, so get local advice before you turn GPS checks on. See Location tracking and the law.
No. When enabled and consented, Field can send periodic, movement-aware positions while a professional is clocked on with the page open and visible. The map displays the last reported position and its age. Closing or hiding the page stops new readings, so do not treat the map as a live moving-dot tracker or route history.
When the app is already available on the device and offline storage is enabled, selected clock, break and work-log writes can be saved for later sync. They are not accepted until the server receives them. Keep Field open or reopen it while signed in after reconnecting, then check pending or rejected records.
Crew members can record a start and end for a break session. In the payroll export, unpaid, meal and other break types are subtracted from paired clock time; a paid break is not. Review missing or unusual breaks before using the result.
For the selected date range, it pairs clock-ins and clock-outs, subtracts recorded unpaid breaks, and multiplies payable minutes by the hourly rate stored for each professional. A missing rate can produce zero pay. It is a simple gross estimate, not an approved or legally complete payslip.
Do not plan around that yet. Field has a payroll CSV and JSON response. Its Xero and QuickBooks invoice connections are separate from payroll hours, and a direct timesheet push to those systems or ADP has not been verified.
Work profiles can require a typed signature, form response or proof photo. The clock flow prompts for the configured proof before submitting the event. A photo must upload while connected; test your chosen profile with one shift before rolling it out to the crew.
No. Managers can review shift-linked clock events, breaks and exception flags. Some checks, including missing GPS or impossible travel, can create flags when geofence verification applies. Compare rostered and worked hours yourself before payroll.
