Features / Job management and work orders
Keep the job moving. Keep the details together.
The address is in a message. The instructions are on a call. The photos are on someone else's phone. Field brings your job details and work records together, so your crew know what to do and you can see what needs attention.

Give the crew the details before they arrive
Keep the address, job instructions and task list with the work. Your crew can check the details on their phone instead of calling the office to piece together what was agreed.
For work you repeat, start from a job template so the usual tasks are already there.
See which jobs need your attention
Follow jobs from scheduling through work in progress to completion. A blocked job has a place in the record, so you can spot work that needs a decision or follow-up.
Give customers a status link they can open without an account. They can check progress without needing an update from you each time.
Keep the evidence with the work
Photos, notes, checklist answers and completion signatures stay with the job. When a customer asks what was done, you have a record to look back at.
Record materials as the work happens, while the details are still fresh.
Reach invoicing with less to reconstruct
Follow the accepted quote through to the job, then use the recorded hours and materials when preparing the invoice. Check what was recorded before you send it.
You can also review job revenue alongside recorded labour and material costs, helping you see where the margin needs a closer look.
Follow one real job through Field
- The job starts as an enquiry or a quoteBuild a quote from your price book, send it, and when the customer accepts it becomes a job without anyone retyping the line items.
- Schedule it and assign the crewThe job goes on the dispatch board with an address, a time and the people who are going. Check the job requirements and the assigned crew before publishing the schedule.
- The crew work from their phoneThey see the address, the history, the checklist and what was quoted. They clock on, work through the tasks, add photos and notes, and record the materials they used.
- Proof is captured as it happensDepending on the job, that means a customer signature, a photo, a completed form, an NFC or QR scan at a checkpoint, or a location check at clock on.
- The customer can follow alongA status link shows them whether the job is scheduled, under way or finished, with no account needed.
- Invoice from what happenedReview the recorded hours and materials, then use the job record to prepare the invoice. Check the details before sending it to the customer.
Start with one job you know well. Check that the instructions, work records and invoice details give you what your business needs before using the flow more widely.
Did the job make money?
A job can stay busy and still leave little margin. Field lets you compare invoiced revenue with recorded labour and material costs for that job, so you can review the work before quoting another like it.
The figures depend on the hours, materials and rates you record. Check missing entries and costs before relying on the result. The job view helps you review those inputs; it is not a complete business profit calculation.
Look at a job you quote regularly. Small gaps between the estimate and the recorded costs are worth catching before the next one.
What's included
- Jobs and work orders with status from draft through scheduled, in progress, blocked, completed and cancelled
- Quote to job to invoice, with accepted quotes becoming jobs and no line items retyped
- Job templates for work you do repeatedly, with the task list built in
- Typed task fields so a checklist can ask for a number, a choice, a photo or free text rather than just a tick
- Photos and notes against the job, captured on site and synced when there is signal
- Materials used recorded per job, with unit cost, feeding both the invoice and the margin
- Price book that imports from a spreadsheet, carrying supplier name, supplier SKU and supplier cost
- Stock on hand per item, counted down as materials are used on jobs, with a reorder level you set and a low stock card when an item drops below it
- Purchase requests with an approval trail, moving through requested, approved, ordered and received
- Supplier receipts photographed and recorded against the job, matched to the price book by SKU, with a variance check against what was billed
- Proof of attendance by geofence, signature, photo, form, or an NFC or QR scan at a checkpoint on site
- Customer status link that needs no account and no app
- Job profitability per job, being invoiced revenue less labour cost less material cost, with margin
- Route stops for jobs on the same run
- Recurring job series for work that repeats on a cycle
What it does not do yet
- Send a formatted purchase order document to a supplier. Purchase requests are raised, approved and tracked through ordered and received inside Field, but the order still reaches the supplier by phone or email
- Split stock by location, such as a warehouse against each van. Stock is counted per item for the business, not per place it sits
- Run multi stage projects with dependencies and a critical path. A job is a job, not a Gantt chart
- Raise work orders against an asset register with a maintenance history per piece of equipment
Who uses it
Businesses where the work happens at the customer's address and somebody has to prove it was done. Plumbing, electrical and HVAC, cleaning contractors, landscaping and grounds, pest control, security, appliance and equipment servicing, property maintenance.
It fits a business running jobs instead of projects. If a typical piece of work takes hours or days and ends in an invoice, this is built for you. If it takes months and has stages and variations, you want construction project software instead.
Questions before your first job
Can I use Field for jobs and work orders?
Yes. Both describe a piece of work to assign, carry out and record. Field keeps the job details, schedule, work records and invoice connected.
Can I reuse a checklist for work we do regularly?
Yes. Start from a job template with its task list. Tasks can ask for a tick, a number, a choice, text or a photo. For visits that repeat for the same customer, use a recurring job series.
Can customers check progress without calling us?
You can share a job-status link they can open without an account or an app. See customer self service.
Can we keep photos and customer sign-off with the job?
Yes. Photos and notes attach to the job. You can require a completion signature, photo or form, so the record stays with the work.
How do I keep track of parts used on a job?
Record materials against the job, using costs from your price book. Those entries feed the invoice, job-cost review and business stock count. Stock is counted per item for the business, rather than separately for each van or warehouse.
Can I see whether a job made money?
You can review invoiced revenue against recorded labour and material costs per job. Check the hours, rates and material entries first. The result helps you assess the job margin, but does not include every business expense.
What happens when the crew lose signal?
Supported records such as clock events, notes, photos and checklist answers can queue on the phone. Confirm they have synced before relying on them in the office. Scheduling and other live actions still need a connection.
Do the crew need an iPhone or an Android?
Either works. Field installs to the home screen from a link, so your crew can use it without downloading it from an app store.
How much does it cost?
Free in beta. No card required. See our pricing page.
Do I have to sign a contract?
Field is free during beta, with no card required. Account setup includes accepting the applicable terms. Paid prices and plan terms will be published before anyone is asked to pay. Current pricing information.
