How to price a window cleaning job
Window cleaning is usually priced per window, with a higher price for windows that need extra height or access work. Screens, tracks and travel are added separately. This calculator brings these together using your own rates.
- Choose the cleaning scope: outside only, or inside and outside.
- Count the standard windows you can reach normally and enter your price per standard window. Do not include high windows in this count.
- Choosing inside and outside sets a starting scope adjustment percentage, which is added to the window prices. It is only a guide, so change it to suit your own pricing.
- Count the high windows and enter your full price for one high window. This is the whole price, not an extra on top of the standard price.
- Add screens at your price per screen, a flat charge for tracks if included, and a travel charge. Your minimum callout covers the windows and screens together on small jobs.
- Enter your tax rate and check the total before and including tax.
Tips and common mistakes
- Agree what counts as one window. Large panes, sliding doors and small divided panes can take very different times.
- Check access before you quote. Height, sloping ground, plants or locked areas can slow you down.
- Follow the rules for working at height that apply where you work. If a window needs special equipment, price that in.
- Keep a record of how long each job takes so you can fine-tune your per-window prices over time.
Questions
How much should I charge per window?
Work out how many windows you can clean in an hour, then divide your hourly rate by that number. That gives a per-window price based on your real speed and costs. Adjust it for larger or harder windows.
How do you price high window cleaning?
High windows take more time, more equipment and more care, so price them separately from standard windows. Set a full price per high window that covers the extra setup and risk. Count them on their own line in the calculator.
Should window cleaners charge more for inside and outside?
Inside work usually adds time, as you need to protect floors, move items and work around furniture. Many cleaners add a percentage or a set amount for it. The calculator's scope adjustment lets you add your own percentage.
Should I charge to clean window screens and tracks?
Screens and tracks take extra time and are often dirtier than the glass, so it is common to price them as extras. Ask the customer whether they want them done before you quote. The calculator has separate lines for screens and tracks.
What is a minimum callout for window cleaning?
It is the lowest price you will charge for a visit, so small jobs still cover travel and setup. In this calculator the minimum covers the windows and screens together, before other extras are added.
