How to price a gutter cleaning job
Gutter cleaning is usually priced by the metre or foot of gutter, with extra charges for height, access, downpipes and debris disposal. A minimum callout keeps short jobs worthwhile. This calculator adds it all up using your own rates.
- Choose metres or feet, then measure only the gutters included in the job and enter the length.
- Choose the property height and enter your price per metre, or per foot if you chose feet.
- Check the access adjustment percentage. Choosing two storeys or more sets a starting percentage on the gutter price. It is only a guide, so change it to suit your own pricing.
- Set a minimum callout so short runs still cover setup, ladders and travel.
- Add downpipes at your price per downpipe, gutter guard handling, debris disposal, additional access equipment and travel, if they apply.
- Enter your tax rate and check the total before and including tax.
Tips and common mistakes
- Choosing two storeys or more adds a starting access percentage to the gutter price. Make sure it matches your own pricing, and use the additional access charge for special equipment.
- Gutter guards can add a lot of work if they need to come off and go back on. Ask before you quote.
- Decide whether you are taking the debris away. Disposal costs time and sometimes a fee, so price it if you do it.
- Plan safe access at height and follow the rules that apply where you work.
Questions
How much should I charge for gutter cleaning?
Work out how many metres of gutter you can clean per hour on a typical property, then set a price per metre that covers your hourly costs and profit. Add extras for height, downpipes, guards and disposal. Use a minimum callout for small jobs.
How do I measure gutters for a quote?
Measure along each wall that has a gutter, at ground level, and add the lengths together. Include only the gutters you will clean. If you work in feet, set the calculator to feet and enter the length in feet.
Should I charge more for a two storey house?
Higher roofs usually take longer and need more equipment and safety setup, so most cleaners charge more. Choosing two storeys or more sets a starting access adjustment you can change, and you can add an additional access charge for equipment. Base it on the extra time and equipment the job really needs.
Is clearing downpipes included in gutter cleaning?
It depends on the business. Blocked downpipes can take time to clear, so many cleaners price them as an extra. Agree with the customer whether it is included, then add a price per downpipe in the calculator.
Should I charge for removing gutter debris?
If you bag and take the debris away, it costs time, transport and sometimes a disposal fee, so it is fair to charge. Some customers are happy to keep it for the garden. Ask first and only price it if you do it.
