How to price industrial floor cleaning
Industrial floor jobs are best priced from the floor area and how fast your team can clean it. Once you know the hours, you add machine hire, chemicals and any access or after-hours costs. This calculator also shows the price per square metre or square foot so you can compare jobs.
- Choose metres or feet, then enter the floor area included in the job in square metres or square feet.
- Choose the floor type and enter the area one cleaner covers per hour, in the same unit, based on your own past jobs on similar floors and equipment.
- Enter the number of cleaners. The calculator works out the hours per cleaner from the area, which you can use or adjust.
- Enter your hourly rate per cleaner, then add machine hire, chemicals and consumables, waste removal and travel.
- Add charges for difficult access or after-hours work if they apply, enter your tax rate and check the price per square metre or square foot.
Tips and common mistakes
- Your coverage per hour changes a lot with floor condition, equipment and how much needs moving. Use figures from jobs you have actually done.
- Leave out areas you will not clean, such as racking or fenced-off zones. Only measure the area in your scope.
- Inspect the site before you quote. Oil, heavy build-up or limited access hours can change the job completely.
- Keep machine hire separate from labour so you can see whether owning your own equipment would pay off over time.
Questions
How much should I charge per square metre for floor cleaning?
Work out the full job price first, from labour, equipment, materials and extras, then divide by the floor area. That gives your real price per square metre for that job. Quoting a flat rate per square metre without checking the hours can leave you underpaid on hard floors.
How long does it take to clean a warehouse floor?
Divide the floor area by the area one cleaner covers per hour, then divide by the number of cleaners. As an illustration only, 2,000 m² at 250 m² per hour is 8 hours for one cleaner, or 4 hours each for two. Use your own coverage rate from past jobs.
Should I include machine hire in my cleaning quote?
Yes. If you are hiring a scrubber, sweeper or other machine for the job, include that cost. If you own the machine, consider a charge that covers its running costs, repairs and eventual replacement, or those costs come out of your profit.
How do I convert square feet to square metres?
Divide square feet by 10.764 to get square metres. To go the other way, multiply square metres by 10.764. Always check which unit a client's floor plan uses before you quote. You can also set the calculator to feet and enter square feet directly.
What should an industrial cleaning quote include?
List the area covered, floor type, number of cleaners, hours, equipment, chemicals and any waste removal. Note access times, after-hours work and anything excluded. A clear scope makes your quote easy to compare and avoids disputes later.
