How to price a pressure washing job

Pressure washing is usually priced by area, with a minimum charge for small jobs. Extra preparation, equipment hire and treatments are added on top. This calculator works out the price from the area and your own rate.

  1. Choose the surface, such as a driveway, patio or deck, and choose metres or feet. Measure only the area you will wash, in square metres or square feet to match.
  2. For a simple rectangle, multiply length by width. Split odd shapes into rectangles, work out each one and add them together.
  3. Enter your price per square metre, or per square foot if you chose feet. The area and the price both follow the unit you chose.
  4. Set a minimum callout so small jobs still cover setup, travel and pack-down.
  5. Add extra preparation hours at your preparation rate, but only for work your area rate does not already cover.
  6. Add equipment hire, surface treatment, difficult access and travel if they apply, then enter your tax rate.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Check the surface before you quote. Moss, oil stains or soft timber can need a slower approach or a treatment.
  • Ask where the runoff water will go and check any local rules about it. Take extra care around drains and gardens.
  • Test a small, hidden patch first on any surface that high pressure could damage.
  • If your rate is per square foot, set the calculator to feet. 1 m² is about 10.76 sq ft, so mixing units between the area and the rate gets a quote badly wrong.

Questions

How much should I charge for pressure washing?

Most pressure washers price by area. Work out how much area you can clean per hour on that surface, then set a rate per square metre or square foot that covers your hourly costs and profit. Add extras like treatment, hire and access separately.

How do I measure a driveway for pressure washing?

Measure the length and width and multiply them to get the area. For curved or odd shapes, split the area into simple shapes, work out each one and add them together. Only include the surface you will actually wash.

Should I charge more to pressure wash a deck than a driveway?

Decks often take longer per square metre, because timber needs lower pressure, more care and sometimes treatment. Many operators set a different rate for each surface. Choose the surface in the calculator and use the rate that matches your own times.

Do pressure washers charge a minimum fee?

Many do, because setup, water connection, travel and pack-down take time on every job. A minimum callout makes sure a small patio is still worth doing. In the calculator it is the minimum base washing charge before extras.
