Price a painting job

Estimate labour, materials, preparation and optional extras using your own charges.

Work out paint quantities first

Your painting job

Enter your customer charges. Preparation and removal are additional charges, so avoid also including them in the base labour.

Only the selected labour basis is charged. Changing between hours and area clears the rate so you can enter the matching charge.

For customer-supplied materials, keep the material charge at zero. Use the material order tool to work out quantities first.

How to price a painting job

Use the measured scope, your labour charge and the materials you plan to supply. This is a job estimate using your rates, not a market price.

  1. Work out paint quantities in the paint order calculator. Its handoff carries whole tins into this job estimate. Confirm tin size and specification.
  2. Choose hourly labour or area pricing, then enter the quantity and corresponding rate. The unused basis is not charged.
  3. Enter material ordering units and the customer charge per unit. Use zero for customer-supplied materials.
  4. Add preparation, removal, access and travel only if they are not already covered in your base rate.
  5. Choose currency, tax rate and whether your entered prices include tax. Review, copy or print the estimate. Signed-in businesses can create a draft quote and save work against a customer.

Tips and common mistakes

  • Measure surfaces and confirm their condition before committing to a price.
  • Capture each room or surface in the area helper, then apply the combined area.
  • Use comparison options for alternative scopes or materials. Public comparisons stay in this page session.

Questions

Does this suggest a painting rate?

No. Enter your own labour or area rate and customer material charges.

Can I charge preparation separately?

Yes. Enter a separate preparation charge, but leave it zero if preparation is already included in the base labour.

Can I compare different paint specifications?

Yes. Capture one completed estimate as an option, change the material quantity or charge, then capture the alternative. Check that each scope includes the same surfaces and coats.

Does saving an estimate send it to my customer?

No. Signed-in business saves are private CRM records. Creating a quote produces a draft that you review separately in Billing.
